Bacon and Bourbon

What:Join the Washington City Paper at the 5th annual Bacon & Bourbon Whiskey Festival, for an evening of Bacon, Bourbon, Whiskey, Cold Brews, and Live Bluegrass Music (Now that’s a delicious mouthful!).  Bacon dishes from local restaurants will be piled high for sampling. Well, we’ll call this 5th annual event for what it is – Hog Heaven!

Who: Vices
What: VICES, a spin-off of DC’s genre-melding Trillectro Music Festival, is a no holds barred dance party featuring some of the (tr)illest party rockers from across the country curating high energy vibes. Think Young Thug meets Disclosure.
VICES creates a space where all colors and creeds can rock together for a night without inhibition.
VICES shows love to anyone pushing the culture forward, so if a fire song dropped this week, you’ll hear it here. You also never know who may pop up for a surprise performance or guest DJ set. Event is 21+ w/ proper ID to enter. All ticket sales are final.

IlluminAsia: A Festival of Asian Art, Food, and Cultures,

What:  Join us for a festival of Asian art, food, and cultures to celebrate the grand reopening of the Freer|Sackler. The IlluminAsia festival will transform the museums’ grounds with an Asian food market, interactive cooking and art demonstrations, live music by members of the Silkroad Ensemble, and creations by local and international artists. Inside, visitors can experience the reimagined galleries and innovative exhibitions, as well as performances, conversations, and other immersive activities. IlluminAsia kicks off on Saturday, October 14, with a night market featuring food and art and a stunning animated projection on the Freer Gallery façade. On Sunday, October 15, the food market will continue alongside cultural programming for all ages throughout the museums and outdoor gardens. IlluminAsia is copresented with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.  The museums will be open 6 pm–12 am on Saturday, October 14, and 10 am–5:30 pm on Sunday, October 15. Rock Yo Rizos presents One Year Later
Who: Mel of Rock Yo Rizos
What: Mel created the “#IamlettingGO” campaign to connect women across social media who felt alone during any type of life transition be it a relocation, marriage, childbirth, or starting a business.  Many stories were being shared that connected individuals through their beautiful struggles. For the first week of the campaign, Mel shared on her social media outlets what she was letting go of and encouraged her followers to do the same using the hashtag #iamlettingGO.  Over 500 people have shared to date.  Ultimately, she revealed the process and the reasons for shaving her signature shoulder length curls as part of her “letting go” process. The short film “One Year Later” covers the first year of Mel’s hair growth journey through footage that she has collected over the past year.  Her decision to cut her hair brought up issues that she was unaware of and she shares how the power of spirituality, travel, and the support of her family has led her to where she is today.
