What: Join The Washington Chorus and Artistic Director Dr. Eugene Rogers as they commemorate the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech in this moving, musical tribute. This concert pairs the iconic Duruflé Requiem with Undine Smith Moore’s 16-part oratorio Scenes from the Life of a Martyr, all to honor Dr. King’s dream of an America where all people enjoy the benefits of equality. The concert will also honor Dr. King himself, exploring his life and struggles alongside the overarching struggle of the Civil Rights movement.

Nick Lutsko & The $100k Band
What: Nick Lutsko is a songwriter, producer, and performer out of Chattanooga, TN. He routinely changes hats between performing with his band and creating satirical music videos for social media and various other film/tv projects for platforms like Netflix and Comedy Central. When the pandemic hit Nick dedicated himself to creating quick comedy songs for Twitter, and in the process has created his own Lutsko-verse that ranges in subject matter from the Trump family to the Gremlins franchise to pitching himself as an SNL host. Regardless of which hat Lutsko is wearing, weirdness abounds.

The Electric Nature
What: The Electric Nature are an experimental group of improvisers from Athens, GA that delve equally into psychedelic noise, dark & light ambient, free rock abandon, harsh drones, modular synthesis, and whatever else might pique their interest on any given day. The core group is Michael Potter (Serrater/Null Zone Tapes), Michael Pierce (sweetearthflying), and Thom Strickland (Smokedog). Their new album, ‘Old World Dies Must’, arrives March 17 from Feeding Tube Records and Null Zone Tapes, and features the saxophone talents of Jeff Tobias (Sunwatchers, Modern Nature), who will be joining them live on tour. For this little jaunt up and down the East Coast, the group will be a mostly electronic affair, with the core trio using a smattering of synths, pedals, samplers, drum machines, and other electronic gadgets, and Tobias playing his manipulated reeds on top.

Walking Tour: The Lost History of Frederick Douglass & Frederick City
What: Lace up your walking shoes to follow in the footsteps of Frederick Douglass in Frederick City, Maryland! An international abolitionist leader and militant reformer, Frederick Douglass made numerous visits to lecture, campaign and speak to benefit local communities throughout Western Maryland that have been lost to history, not told in the mythologized statewide narrative. In 1879 U.S. Marshal Frederick Douglass visited Maryland’s 6th Congressional District on three individual occasions, including an April visit to Frederick where he spoke to benefit Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Discover the lost history of the connections, friendships and associations of Frederick Douglass with Frederick from Francis Scott Key to John Brown to Rev. Tanner to local school educators, barbers, newspaper editors and political leaders.

Anticapitalist Open Mic Night
What: To co-create different futures for ourselves, we first have to imagine them. In partnership with the Scooby Doo Mansion, we’re hosting an open mic night where we can engage in listening and anticapitalist visioning with each other. After The Storm is a publication for long-form essays and fiction stories that describe a world beyond our current oppressive society. What: Indigo & Shibori 101Itching to get creative? Come dye with me! This class will cover making and dyeing with indigo, including the basics of shibori (Japanese tie-dye). You’ll learn how to:-make an indigo vat-dye with indigo for long-lasting color-tie up the cloth for a variety of beautiful patterns-care for your indigo-dyed items. Each participant will receive 1 bandana to dye with. All other materials provided. You may bring a few additional items to dye from home. Small to medium sized items with 50% or more natural fiber content work best. In addition, wear clothing that you don’t mind getting stained. Bring an apron if you wish, and rubber gloves if you have them.
