Pineapple DC presents: wellness realness
Who: Pineapple DC
What: What does wellness mean to you? Is it a trend? An inaccessible luxury? Or perhaps a goodness you feel deep within? Wellbeing is an adventure. Everyone has her own path, and one size rarely fits all. Matcha lattes, kombucha cleanses, and ashwagandha elixirs are not panaceas. As Rachelle Robinett puts it- “how we feel, what our medical test results show, and the way we’re able to live our lives matter far more than being on the latest superfood bandwagon.” There is an undeniable connection between wellbeing, community, and the food that we eat and health activist Haile Thomas (@hailethomas), Jodi Moreno of What’s Cooking Good Looking, Almila Kakinc-Dodd of The Thirlby (and of the new book The Thirlby: A Field Guide to a Vibrant Mind, Body, and Soul), and Rachelle Robinett of Super Natural Cafe show us that an inclusive, accessible and practical form of wellness is crucial for our personal health and healthy communities. Join us for an open conversation, breakout sessions & a group consciousness on wellness, as we share attainable advice on healthy-for-you cooking, herbal first aid, and giving back.
We’ll enjoy:
Almila’s Nutty Chocolate Hormone-Balancing Bars
Jodi’s Flourless Blood Orange + Olive Oil Chocolate Cake
One-of-a-kind collab salads with sweetgreen from Jodi’s & Almila’s books
Topo Chico Sparkling Mineral Water
Almila’s Book The “Thirlby: A Field Guide to a Vibrant Mind, Body, and Soul” and Jodi’s Cookbook “More With Less” will be for sale at the event thanks to Sold State Books!
Where: MakeOffices at Logan Exchange – 1509 16th Street Northwest – Washington, DC 20036
When: Thurs, June 7th,2018 6:00pm – 8:30pm
GIRLAAA: A Party Powered By Women, For Women.
Who: GIRLAAA
What: Rock Creek Social Club (RCSC), a social staple in the District, known for working alongside Broccoli City, No Kings Collective, and hosting sold out installations like Grilled Cheese Social, is kicking off “GIRLAAA: A party powered by women.” The GIRLAAA install begins Thursday, June 7th, at Diet Starts Monday, and continues every first Thursday of the month through September. With support from female creative collective, MXDHOUSE, the night will feature an array of eclectic female djs, hosts, and curators including: MANESQUEEZE, DOMO, SHIVA, TASHAZE, KLEO, & THE MIXSTRESS, playing a mix of r&b, hip-hop, dance, go-go, caribbean, and whatever makes you MOVE! This event is intentionally curated by RCSC partner and DJ, Dominique Wells, to create a social atmosphere where women can come exactly as they are. Be it in sneakers or high heels; braless or suited up – THIS IS OUR SPACE; to be carefree, to dance like no one is watching, to connect, to inspire, to bring friends and make new ones. Men are 100% welcome but, the drama is not. Be mindful of the women around you. Don’t be an ass or grab one. THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT (we got bills to pay if we wanna keep this thing going). Early bird tickets are now $20. Prices will be $30 at the door. We expect to reach capacity, Doors open at 9pm and timely arrivals are encouraged.
