Happenings

June 13th – June 20th 2018

Hello friends!! Join us every Wednesday for the events not to miss in the coming weeks.  While our google calendar is great, sometimes events can get lost in the sauce.  So here are some events we are excited for in the coming week!!

DCIST IS BACK, BABY!
Who: DCist
What: DCist Is Returning, And It’s Time To Party! The homepage of the District is coming back with all the news, culture, and curiosities you’ve been missing, thanks to our Kickstarter supporters and WAMU. Join us for a DCist launch party at Blind Whino to celebrate! Dance to D.C.’s DJ Beauty and the Beatz and challenge fellow readers to a game of corn hole or giant Jenga. When you get hungry, you can grab some savory treats from the food trucks or nosh on some sweets, all while sipping on signature cocktails and other local drinks. And you won’t leave empty-handed: Soul and Ink will be on-site to make handcrafted, custom screen-printed posters. Plus, who knows what you’ll overhear …
Thanks to our supporting sponsor, Warner Theatre.
Where: Blind Whino SW Arts Club – 700 Delaware Avenue Southwest – Washington, DC 20024
When: Thurs, June 14th,2018 6:30pm – 11:00pm

BGV DC – Summer Pitch Competition
Who: BGV DC
What: Boss Up!
The Black Girl Ventures Pitch Competition
Crowdfunding meets Pitch Competition
EVERYONE CAN ATTEND, BLACK WOMEN WILL WIN!
THE COST OF YOUR TICKET WILL SUPPORT WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS
Black Girl Ventures creates place-based initiatives to provide access to capital for Black women entrepreneurs. Our mission is to use entrepreneurship support and training as a vehicle for poverty alleviation and wealth building. Black women founders are underserved, unbanked and underfunded. It’s time to change that!
Our signature event, the BOSS UP! Pitch Competition, flips the traditional pitch competition on its head: we charge at the door (creating our own fund), eliminate the panel of judges, and empower the community (audience) to ask questions and vote for the winner.
How does this work?
* Donate (Purchase a ticket)
* Attend the event. (Can’t attend? Donate anyway!)
* Listen to dynamic women pitch their businesses.
* Vote on the pitch you favor.
* Two women receive seed funding and/or resources for their business!
The first place winner will receive over $1000 in cash and prizes including the vision fund, 12 free t-shirts for her business, a meeting with an investor and more.
Want to pitch?
Visit www.blackgirlventures.org click “APPLY TO PITCH.”
EVERYONE CAN ATTEND, BLACK WOMEN WILL WIN!
Not available to attend? YOU CAN STILL DONATE! The proceeds build the vision fund for participants to win. Even if you’re unavailable to attend you can support women entrepreneurs by purchasing a ticket. This event is open to the public. Everyone is welcome to support Black women entrepreneurs.
Got questions? We have answers! Email us at contact@blackgirlventures.org.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad
and tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop,
just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now broken and
she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!
