BUILDING CONNECTIONS: A Creative Power Hour
Who: DM202Live
What: DC is known as a networking city; however, asking “What do you do?” isn’t really who we are. In the creative space – and in life – building connections with people is so much more than that. Join us as we bring together some power players in the District to learn how to network more authentically and productively. There will be small group discussions and then the opportunity to mix and mingle with both our thought leaders and each other while enjoying the view from The Hive. We’ll talk about how to authentically connect with people and build the relationships you need to both thrive and help your project or business grow.  MEET OUR POWER PLAYERS: Tammy Gordon started Verified Strategy to help companies, leaders and organizations stay ahead of the ever-evolving and highly competitive digital communications landscape. She was an early-adopter of social (see: @tammy) who’s known for bringing together exceptional people, organizations, and ideas. Before launching Verified, Tammy led award-winning teams at AARP, where she founded the Social Media and Studios divisions for the 37-million member organization. Timur Tugberk – A Washington native with global roots, Timur offers creative problem solving through articulated digital and tangible experiences. He founded his business in 2005 focussing primarily on interior and event design. Over the years, Timur has expanded his tool belt to help people manifest their dreams and visions bringing dozens of brands and products to market. Angelica Talan is a social media influencer with two popular DC based lifestyle blogs: Clarendon Moms and Angelica In The City. Both blogs cater to two different audiences and are sources for inspiration. Angelica is energetic and enjoys encouraging people to discover delicious places to eat, new places to get fit, exciting things to see and fun things to do in the Washington DC area and beyond. Angelica is passionate about helping others by bridging connections. She hosts quarterly influencer events and volunteers a lot of time mentoring others. Khalil C. Thompson is a native Washingtonian who grew up driving down 16th Street and seeing the White House as this beacon of change. A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and studying for his Master’s in Government at John’s Hopkins, Khalil sees the pathway through social change in part based on the connections we have with each other whether using the medium of social media or direct person to person networking these synaptic approaches are no different. By connecting the dots, we grow as individuals. Khalil resides in Washington with his wife and one year old daughter. He is an avid golfer, reader and traveler. Victor Nguyen-Long is a freelance Creative Strategist, arts advocate, and activist, living in Washington, DC (most of the time, at least). After a 15-year career at Audi, Nike, 72andSunny, and Red Bull, he quit his job to figure out what the world needs and how he might be able to contribute his experience. He is now determined to better define the role of creatives in civic engagement. We will have snacks and HH drink specials!!! An Evening with Marcia Gay Harden for The Seasons of My Mother  Who: Marcia Gay Harden
What: From one of America’s most revered actresses comes a poetic and inspiring memoir that illustrates the uniqueness, beauty, and unforgettable love of motherhood. In The Seasons of My Mother: a Memoir of Love, Family, and Flowers, Marcia Gay Harden uses the imagery of flowers and Ikebana to depict the unique creative bond she has had with her mother Beverly throughout the years—and how, together, they are facing her mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She describes the seasons of her mother’s life and Beverly’s devotion to Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, which she discovered when her young family was stationed in Japan. Throughout, Marcia weaves in the story of her own journey from precocious young girl to budding artist to Academy Award-winning actress. With a razor-sharp wit, as well as the kind of emotional honesty that has made her performances resonate with audiences worldwide, Marcia describes the family’s travels overseas, her flourishing career in New York and Hollywood, and, most poignantly, Beverly’s struggles today to maintain her identity as she tackles her greatest challenge yet: Alzheimer’s disease. Marcia Gay Harden was a 2018 recipient of the Senator William and Ellen Proxmire Award. Time: 6:30 pm check-in and drinks, 7 pm program, 8 pm book signing.
