Beer, Brussels, Bidwell!

On Monday Nov 16th, I had the pleasure of attending the second installment of The Crafted Dinner, an exclusive private dining series from MUNCHIES and Leffe, at Chef Spike Mendelsohn‘s restaurant Béarnaise in Washington, D.C.

We started downstairs with bites and beer as Chef Mendelsohn wandered in and out, checking on food in the back and greeting people in the front.  Beef tartar passed by (well it didn’t pass cause I definitely stopped him every time as you can see) and then came brussels sprouts with Bearnaise, mussel shooters and trays of meats and cheeses.  My inner over-eater was in heaven!!

As people wandered into the mix, I saw familiar faces and some new ones I would soon meet.  Once upstairs we got to hear some of the incredible history of Leffe and the beer (which is one of the first beers I’ve tried that I actually like!). The night was a delightful pairing of Leffe Beer and delicious food.  Dishes were made by Chef Spike, inspired by Brussels and made with beer.  Upstairs, we indulged in crispy pigs feet and chicken liver pâté, followed by a lovely house salad with a delicious Leffe vinaigrette; chicken paillaird and frites, braised in Leffe Blonde with dijonaise sauce; and seasonal mushrooms, carrots, and French green beans glazed in Leffe Brune.  Everything was delicious!
