Reading – Jan 2023

Just finished 2 Second Lean by Paul Akers (https://paulakers.net/books/2-second-lean) which was an illuminating listen. Just downloaded The Courage to Be Disliked: How to Free Yourself, Change Your Life, and Achieve Real Happiness by: Ichiro Kishimi & Fumitake Koga and The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Maté & Daniel Maté. Still working my way through Christine Platt’s The Afrominimalist’s Guide to Living with Less (purge sale end of January cause your girl’s got too much stuff!!) – Relistening to the High Five Habit, Mel Robbins is truly a treasure and sometimes you gotta read it twice!!

Added To The Reading List:
*Tricia Hersey, aka The Nap Bishop – Rest Is Resistance
*Glory Edim – On Girlhood: 15 Stories from the Well-Read Black Girl Library
*Chloe Louvouezo – Life, I Swear
*Helena Andrews – The Mamas: What I Learned About Kids, Class, and Race from Moms Not Like Me
*Yasmine Cheyenne – The Sugar Jar, Create Boundaries, Embrace Self-Healing, and Enjoy the Sweet Things in Life
*Bevy Smith – Bevelations: Lessons from a Mutha, Auntie, Bestie
*Alex Elle – How We Heal: Uncover Your Power and Set Yourself Free
*April Ryan – Black Women Will Save the World: An Anthem
*Jennette McCurdy – I’m Glad My Mom Died

Eating – Jan 2023

Added Eating because I love food (obvi!!) and wanted a space to share some exciting food/eating news.

Winter Restaurant Week is coming!! January 16–22: Experience the flavors of the city! Enjoy specially priced menus at diners and restaurants throughout the District, Maryland and Northern Virginia. Restaurants will offer brunch and lunch menus for $25 per person and dinner menus for $40 or $55 per person. Check out where to eat here – https://ramw.org/restaurantweek

Elcielo: A creative cocktail bar popup behind the MICHELIN-starred Bar Team! “El Caribeño by Elcielo” will be located at Galeria: the Unique Culinary Studio at La Cosecha, December 1-24th. This more casual experience (no reservations necessary, $20 includes the drink and a Colombian street food snack) consists of 5 cocktails and 1 no ABV drink pairing with snacks and an artisan beer by a local Mexican distributor. Themed around Caribbean culture and cuisine with elements of the season, the menu highlights a hot dessert cocktail themed around #beachlifebestlife, an Elvis-inspired Peanut Butter Whiskey Sour & a Horchata for those wishing to leave out the booze.

Watching – Jan 2022

I really enjoy entertainment of all forms, books are my favorite but I also love television and movies. I watch an embarrassing amount of television sometimes, often while trying to find the bottom of my inbox. Here are some of my favorite series and movies I’ve watched lately.

Iconic

On Netflix – I’m definitely a Wednesday addict, I’ve watched it 3 more times now while working on posts and emails. I also started on Kalidascope which is an interesting new style (you can watch in any order apparently) and it’s definitely got people talking. I also started Copenhagen Cowboy but I’m not sure if I like it yet so I will keep you posted on that one. The new Ginny & Georgia is dropping and I’m sure I’m gonna hate watch it but not sure if I’m going to like it yet. Finished The Recruit which was VERY DC and had the worst ending, like he cannot really be that naive after a whole season of this ish smh. I don’t know if I’ve seen yt male mediocrity so blatently displayed in a show before. Ohhh I also recently watched The Invitation which was good but not at all what I was expecting.

Peacock – THE BEST MAN: THE FINAL CHAPTERS TIME!!!! So I don’t know if we’re ready to let this go, everyone is saying they are done, heck Terrence Howard says he’s retiring but they made it TOO good and now we all want MORE!! I’ve watched it three times now. I know I just did the same with Wednesday but it is typically rare for me to rewatch this quickly. I recently watched Ticket to Paradise with a friend and George Clooney and Julia Roberts are a hoot together. I could not stop laughing at how silly it was, in a fun way. It’s just a good, fun, funny, kinda family movie.

HBO – I’m back on HBO finishing up the new season of His Dark Materials. I am also definitely gonna watch The Menu, which looks really interesting, maybe a little dark. Also got check out some Lizzo, she’s always great to watch.

Prime – Someone recommended The Peripheral so now I gotta borrow a prime log in (Amazon isn’t getting anymore of my money these days) so I can check it out.

Check back next week for more to do, read, eating and watch!!
