Hello friends!! Join us every Wednesday for the events not to miss in the coming weeks.  While our google calendar is great, sometimes events can get lost in the sauce.  So here are some events we are excited for in the coming week!!

#BlogHer18 Creators Summit
Who: BlogHer18
What: Celebrating Female Content Creators Who Tell Their Stories to Inspire, Educate, and Empower. Join us for our 14th annual BlogHer at the Seaport in NYC! BlogHer was founded on the premise that women’s collective voices hold boundless power. When women come together it is often their debate, empathy, and connection that challenge norms while building community. #BlogHer18 Creators Summit will focus on 3 key areas of content creation: Food, Beauty, and Health. Attendees will include 2,000 bloggers, social media influencers, and lady bosses, looking to live their best life through information, inspiration, and innovation. They will have the opportunity to hear from empowering keynote speakers, learn brand-building skills at influencer workshops and network with other attendees and brand partners.

Women Behind the Lens
Who: The Heurich House Museum
What:  The Heurich House Museum will present the works of four influential early female filmmakers during the series, Women Behind the Lens, each Wednesday evening from July 18th until August 8th. The museum’s new Carriage House Gallery will be turned into a screening room focusing on the work of one filmmaker each week. These films will transport you back to the early era of the film industry through the eyes of the females who created the art. On Wednesday, August 8th from 6-8pm, Women Behind the Lens will present “The Hitch-Hiker” by Ida Lupino. The first female-directed film noir, “The Hitch-Hiker” was released in 1953 and is based on the true-life story of Billy Cook. Lupino, who founded the independent film studio The Filmakers, often focused on issue-oriented films created with a low-budget and incorporated aspects of Billy Cook’s life into this film. This work is also her first film to feature an all-male cast.

Georgetown’s 2018 Sunset Fitness in the Park: Free Outdoor Fitness Series
Who: Georgetown’s 2018 Sunset Fitness in the Park
What: SAVE THE DATE! The Georgetown Business Improvement District is celebrating summer in Georgetown with Sunset Fitness in the Park, a free series of outdoor fitness classes, taking place every Wednesday from June 6 – August 29. Starting June 6 through August 29, attend FREE outdoor fitness classes hosted by different Georgetown studios. The hour-long sessions begin at 6 p.m. in Georgetown Waterfront Park near the intersection of Potomac Street and K/Water Street. Registration for each month will open up 2 weeks prior to the first class of the month. Registration is strongly suggested and each class is capped at 100 participants. Walk-in are welcome, space permitting. Please bring a yoga mat, and we’ll provide you with bottled water and snacks. REGISTER TODAY Cancellations: All registrants will be notified of weather cancellations by 3pm on class day, along with rescheduled class details when possible. If you are unable to attend, please email events@georgetowndc.com to cancel your registration in order to allow another attendee to participate.

3rd Annual Luau “Ono Grindz” in the Courtyard
Who: ALOHA CR3W crew
What: ~Rain or shine, it’s Luau time!!~ The ALOHA CR3W crew is hard at work planning for an AWESOME Courtyard Luau next Saturday, August 11th 2018 @ 7pm. We’ve reserved one of DC’s prestine courtyards, complete with an enclosed party Penthouse to keep the party going regardless of the weather. Open bar, Tropical-themed cocktails, Hawaiian shirts/ ALOHA Attire, live-music, dancing, scenic DC skyline backdrop, and festive way to spend your Saturday evening. Catering will be provided by local hawaiian chefs specializing in Hawaiian cuisine.
Why: In ancient times, Hawaiians held traditional feasts to mark special occasions—the birth of a child, a successful harvest or victorious battle were all reasons to honor the gods who showed them favor. Come help us celebrate the mixing of cultures in DC and Hawaii by start the month of August in style. Join us on August 11th, 2018 @ 7pm to support the rise of Hawaiian cuisine in DC.

What: Grrrls* Night is a space for women, trans comrades of all genders, and femmes to come together and talk socialism — or just be social. New members and DSA-curious Grrrls*, come say hi and connect with us!
We love Wunder Garten for its accessibility, full bar if you’re not a beer drinker (and no-pressure vibe if you’re not a drinker, period), kid- and dog-friendly policies, and tons of lawn games. We’ll have materials and instructions for making red rose pins, and welcome any other crafty/creative ideas (buttons? zines?) folks would like to bring and share. We’ll also be passing the can to raise a few bucks to support any comrades who may have legal needs coming out of the citywide anti-fascist action earlier in the week.
BONUS for those who get tuckered out by too much socializing but still want to pop by: there’s a free outdo…
