pineapple DC presents: feeding the soul
Who: Pineapple DC
What: Soul food. We know it and love it for its comfort and depth of flavors, but beneath its steamy-hot surface is a complicated, brilliant, and often overlooked history. Carla Hall is bringing this story to life. You’ve probably seen Carla co-hosting ABC’s “The Chew” or rooted for her on “Top Chef.” Now she’s reimagining and redefining what soul food really means in her newest book, Carla Hall’s Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration.
Join pineapple DC and Politics & Prose (in collaboration with Squarespace, our conversation partner and the all-in-one website-building platform) for an intimate discussion with Carla Hall moderated by NPR’s Melissa Block as we trace the culinary history and evolution of soul food — from its African roots, to slavery in the Deep South, to its modern day interpretations. We’ll look beyond the plate to dive into the cultural complexities of soul food, shatter misconceptions about the cuisine, and explore ways to bring its glorious dishes to your table.
Of course we’ll have noshes from a womxn-powered restaurant on Caviar and lots of Mountain Valley Spring & Sparkling Water. And don’t worry, you can buy the book with your ticket or at the event and get it signed!

The massive Juste Debout world tour culminates in a riveting competition that unites more than 4,000 dancers and 16,000 spectators from around the world in Paris each spring. Finalists are selected following three months of interntaional preselections. Come discover the crème de la crème on December 2nd! Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your article seem to be running off the screen in Chrome. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the problem resolved soon. Many thanks
