Mindful Mondays with Great Energy Group
What:  Join the crew from Great Energy Group and Eaton’s Wellness Director Tara Aura for a unique mindfulness series, exploring movement, mindset, and music of the Black diaspora. This will be a rhythmic, restorative, yoga flow that links movement to the breath. This class is fun for inflexible people and yogis of all levels. Detailed verbal instructions, modifications for beginners, use of props and more challenging pose extensions for advanced students. Participants will stretch muscles, build strength, find balance, and create internal space, setting intentions for the week. The Golden Seas Duo – Kahil El’Zabar and David Murray
What: Sir Kahil El’Zabar, was Knighted by the Council General of France for his Global contributions to the Arts. He has performed with luminaries like, Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderley, Pharoah Sanders, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Archie Shepp, Eddie Harris, Donny Hathaway, Paul Simon, Ntozake Shange, Nona Hendryx, Neneh Cherry, Lester Bowie, Hamiet Bluiett, Malachi Favors, Billy Bang, Gene Ammons, to name a few. Dr. El’Zabar holds a PHD from Lake Forest College in Inter-Disciplinary Arts. He taught music and interred disciplinary arts at the U. Nebraska/Lincoln, and U. IL/Chicago. He was Appointed by Pres. Bill Clinton to the National Task Force for Arts resenting in Education. He won the International Ambassador Award from Pres. Barak Obama’s Administration. Kahil El’zabar has served on the prestigious boards of the Lila Wallace Readers Digest Fund, The National Endowment of the Arts, and the National Campaign for the Freedom of Expression. He is also the former chairmen of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). El’Zabar has recorded over one hundred acclaimed projects, and founded and leads the legendary Ethnic Heritage Ensemble and Ritual Trio.

On the Shoulders of a Giant: Continuing Vera Rubin’s Quest to Understand Dark Matter
What: The Earth and Planets Laboratory will host a special Neighborhood Lecture honoring the late Carnegie astronomer Vera Rubin, the “Mother of Dark Matter.” Guest speaker Rachael Beaton, an astronomer from the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) and alumna of the Carnegie-Princeton Postdoctoral Fellowship program, will discuss Rubin’s groundbreaking observation confirming dark matter’s existence, explore dark matter’s role in galaxy formation, and highlight future avenues of research.

Raediant Movement Presents: Deep In My Bones
What: Deep In My Bones embodies feelings of frustration resulting from being African Americans who experience rejection and accusations of misappropriation by some of our Diasporic brothers and sisters when we move our bodies in ways predominantly seen in African and Caribbean cultures. We show that as Black Americans, these movements feel native to our bodies and connect us to our brothers and sisters across the world. This work aims to highlight the connections between movements throughout and across the African Diaspora. It showcases Black American vernacular movements and Black contemporary dance forms while also infusing social and folk dances across the Caribbean, West Africa, and Southern Africa into movements.

Eli Waltz @ Miracle Theatre
What: Eli Waltz is a folk singer & songwriter based in Washington, D.C. For Eli, travel and music are inextricably linked. He cut his teeth busking in the streets of Medellin, Tel-Aviv, and Dali, China. For a long spell, he lived and performed in Beijing. His sound can most aptly be described as psychedelic folk, drawing inspiration from traditional American folk music, blues, rock ‘n’ roll, classical music, and traditional Chinese folk music. Eli incorporates a fingerpicking style modeled on folk legend Townes Van Zandt, a slide guitar style inspired by the ancient Chinese instrument Guqin and Mississippi Blues, and he draws upon the vocal stylings of Ray Lamontagne and John Lee Hooker.

Nationtime
What: Nationtime is a report on the National Black Political Convention held in Gary, Indiana, in 1972. This historic event gathered Black voices from across the political spectrum, among them Jesse Jackson, Dick Gregory, Coretta Scott King, Dr. Betty Shabazz, and Amiri Baraka. Narrated by Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte, the film was considered too “militant” for television broadcast at the time, and, until recently, was only available in a “shortened” version.

Gentle Yoga
What: Would you like to gain strength, flexibility, and balance physically while encouraging relaxation and meditation mentally? Celestial Stories Soundscape
What: Throughout the day, experience the soundscape, an immersive sonic experience that turns the listener’s imagination toward the stars. Celestial Stories is a soundscape of the stars in the night sky and narratives of encounters with the sky from different religious and spiritual perspectives. This piece was created using sonification techniques, in which data points of the stars in the night sky, taken from astrographic plates from 1891 to 1928, were used to generate musical tones and sounds to recreate the stars in the sky as a compilation of sounds rather than visual representation. Stories contributed by Festival participants have been woven into the sonic depiction of the slowly changing celestial sphere.

Destino: Move over, Cronut.
