When it comes to health, nutrition and fitness, there’s a ton of information out there. That’s the problem. There’s so much information that seems to conflict and is disorganized. So where do we start? The good thing is, there is a ton of information out there but the bad thing is, there is no form of application that supports or demonstrates what’s best for you. Which in a way is a good thing because when it comes to your diet, it gets personal. Trying to change your habits and lifestyle with just “information” is like learning to do your own surgery or fly a plane simply by surfing blogs or reading the hottest clickbait. Meh, not a great idea. Sadly, month after month, year after year, people continue to try the latest, greatest diet (or supplement or whatever) to only give up or alter it to their liking a couple of weeks later in sheer frustration as they look in the mirror or step on the scale to find little to nothing has changed. Not to mention that the latest and greatest just isn’t that sustainable, yet we’ve been convinced by influencers and marketers that quick fixes like 8-minute abs or beach bod in 2-weeks WORK! Right? If this sounds like you, We’re here to tell you that it’s not your fault. AMBITIOUS ATHLETICS: We’re proud to be partnering with the one and only, Carmen Sturniolo, leader and exercise nutrition coach at AMBITIOUS ATHLETICS! He has seen a lot; from spotty periods, hair loss, osteopenia, poor sex drive, poor sleep habits, severe under eating and so much more. We are also teaming up with TERRITORY, kickass meals-2-go that are responsibly sourced, with no ingredients containing gluten or dairy*, free of refined sugars and crafted by independent, local chefs here in the DMV! We’ll be sitting for lunch during our conversation with Carmen, so come hungry! WHAT TO EXPECT: Prior to our conversation, we’ll be strolling through as a group at Rock Creek. We’ll make sure to send you the entry point so we’re organized ahead of time, but we’ll be racing to Picnic Area #6. When we sit, Carmen will lead an education lesson through food, body composition, metabolic rate, hormones, diet phases, and the applications used to create food/diet sustainability. We’ll be chowing down on a meal provided by Territory. Please let us know any dietary restrictions ahead of time. HOUSE RULES: No phones will be used until the end of the event/ No discussion about work or what you do.
WHAT DO I WEAR: Athletic gear! Please bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Rock your favorite dad hat! Bring dat Behold. Her tee!
YOU BOUGHT A TICKET BUT CAN’T ATTEND:  We don’t do refunds, but we encourage forwarding your ticket to a friend. Make sure to email beboldbeher@gmail.com to let us know who to expect in your place! BUT YOU’RE AN ALL WOMEN’S ORG: Though Behold. Her has started with women, it will not end with women. As our efforts continue to expand our initiative, we welcome this dude into our community to help us understand more about our body & health struggles and start opening arms to the men in our community who are wanting to see us succeed. WHO THE HELL IS BEHOLD.HER? Give us a friendly visit at www.beholdher.co to get in the know about what we’re up to and how you can join our sisterhood.

Toli Moli x Duende District Present: COOK + BOOK “Chicken Adobo & Sauces!”
Who: Toli Moli x Duende District
What: Toli Moli x Duende District present: COOK + BOOK, a friendly gathering on the last Wednesday of each month to learn more about cooking with Asian ingredients at home.
On July 25th, our summer partnership continues with Foodhini, founded on the idea that food can be used to create new opportunities for our immigrant and refugee communities by preparing and delivering authentic multicultural meals. The seventh monthly edition of COOK + BOOK returns to Union Market with a Chicken Adobo & Sauces Galore cooking class.
What is Chicken Adobo? For those who don’t know this delightful culinary staple, it’s one of the most well known Filipino dishes and one of Chef Wing’s specialties. His recipe introduces the uninitiated to super creamy and tender cuts of chicken breast with a hint of sweetness. Marinated in brown sugar, coconut vinegar, and soy sauce, this is bound to be a favorite in your household if it isn’t already. Enjoy fresh cut chunks of potatoes slow cooked and marinaded with a sweet and savory sauce. Special treat: Chef Wing is preparing three additional homemade Filipino marinades/sauces for you to try – check your bodega bag after class!
Who is Chef Wing? Born and raised in the Philippines, Chef Wing has been in the U.S. for a little over four years. He started his culinary journey as a young boy when he and his mother would cook meals out of their home kitchen to sell to other families in their village. From breakfast to dinner, Wing would whip up homemade Palawan food the entire community would line up for. As a teenager, Wing worked 15-hour days as a sous-chef at a local restaurant to help support his six other siblings. Eventually, Wing moved to the city and started his own boat tour company where he cooked local favorites for his guests, one of whom would later become his wife.
When Wing and his wife moved to the States, his dream was to follow in his mother’s footsteps to open a restaurant. Wing’s humble beginnings in the restaurant industry were as a dishwasher at the Natural History Museum. There, he worked his way up to positions as a line cook at restaurants throughout DC. As three immigrant-owned businesses, we are honored to be part of Chef Wing’s journey in achieving his dream of opening his own Filipino toro toro style restaurant someday, all while being able to bring you the flavors and tastes of his home Palawan food.
After class, chat with Chef Wing and Team Toli Moli about what ingredients at Toli Moli’s Burmese Bodega you can use for home cooking. Following the demonstration, thanks to a partnership with Harvey’s Market, Almaala Farms and Toli Moli, you’ll also get a “bodega bag” filled with ingredients to make your own Filipino meal at home! This month’s featured book available for purchase is Asian American: Proudly Inauthentic Recipes from the Philippines to Brooklyn by Dale Talde, Top Chef favorite and owner of the acclaimed Brooklyn restaurant Talde. Today, his dual identity is etched on the menu at Talde, where he reimagines iconic Asian dishes, imbuing them with Americana while doubling down on the culinary fireworks that made them so popular in the first place. His food isn’t Asian fusion; it’s Asian-American.
Each month at COOK + BOOK, you’ll have the opportunity to: purchase a book written or recommended by the chef, enjoy dynamic conversations with local food entrepreneurs, take home a “bodega bag” with key ingredients from class, meet new friends interested in Asian food and cultures, learn a new recipe using Asian ingredients from Toli Moli’s Burmese Bodega and other Union Market businesses.
Where: Union Market – 1309 5th Street Northeast – Washington, DC 20002
When: Wed, July 25th, 2018 6pm – 8pm
